Steward Celebrates National Social Work Month
We are honored to recognize National Social Work Month this March – a time to celebrate the incredible contributions and achievement of social workers. At Steward, social workers are integral to promoting patient outcomes and ensuring that we can deliver compassionate, equitable medical services.
Social Work is one of the fastest growing careers in the United States. In 2020, there were 715,000 social work jobs in the United States, and the profession is expected to grow by 12% by 2030. Specifically, medical social workers are one of the fastest growing specialties within the field, as a result of health care’s growing needs for their expertise.
Social Workers are integral members of a wide-variety of institutions – from schools to health care systems – and on a day-to-day basis, work hard to help individuals navigate some of life’s greatest challenges including poverty, physical illness, mental illness, and disability. By providing mental health services to more than 75 million people in the United States annually, social workers are the largest group of mental health services providers in the country.
We witnessed how our social workers have been there for our communities during a crisis. Throughout the pandemic, our medical social workers have gone above and beyond to help patients understand the impact of the pandemic on their health, provided vital information about testing and vaccines, and offered support to those who have lost loved ones to the virus.
At Steward, we are made better by our incredible team of medical social workers, whose expertise and empathy are integral to promoting the health and well-being of our patients. As we honor our social workers this month, let’s do all that we can to educate ourselves about all the tremendous work social workers do for our communities.
