Jose was always mechanically inclined, so after being encouraged by a school advisor, he signed up for the Navy. He served for five years as a machinist mate and lived on a fuel tanker. Like life on the sea, hospitals are required to be self-sustaining and be equipped to handle any emergency. His work is crucial to the daily operations of the hospital, where he has worked for 18 years.
