Wadley Regional Medical Center’s Veteran Employee

Wadley Regional Medical Center

Carmalita Williams
Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department

Carmalita Williams is a proud veteran.  She joined the Air Force Reserves in July of 2002 at the age of 29.  When asked why she decided to enlist, she said that 9/11 played a part in her decision.  Working as a correctional officer for the State of Arkansas, she decided to join the fight. “What could be a greater honor to your children, your family and to your country than to join the fight and protect.”    When testing to enter the Air Force, she scored very high in the area to be a medic.  With two tours overseas to Iraq as a medic, she proved to be very good at her job.  She did so well that her very stern commander told her she was a great medic and that she expected her to be a nurse.  Carmalita simply said, “Yes ma’am.”  Three months later, she applied for the nursing program and the rest is history.  She has been at Wadley since September 2015, first working in Med/Surg for about eight months and then as an ER nurse.   She continues to serve our great country as an Air Force reservist, going regularly to base hospital/clinic to provide care to the active Air Force enlisted.   She said working in the field as a medic allows her to provide life-saving procedures when needed, such as inserting chest tubes, something she would not normally do in a clinic or hospital setting.  She was promoted to Master Sergeant in December 2015.
