The Center for Weight Control at Norwood Hospital, specializing in weight-loss surgery, has helped more than 2,000 patients on their weight-loss journeys. The nationally accredited Center recently celebrated its first decade of restoring health to those struggling with obesity and maintaining weight loss.
The Center, led by Medical Director and Bariatric Surgeon, Dr. Adam Glasgow, takes a compassionate and comprehensive team approach to each patient’s experience. Throughout their journeys patients meet with multiple clinicians, including mental health counselors and dietitians, providing a coordinated care approach.
Among the surgical procedures offered is the Lap-Band, a surgically implanted silicone ring around the upper part of the stomach. This reduces the capacity of the stomach, helping patients to feel full sooner and eat less. A newer surgery, Sleeve Gastrectomy, involves removing part of the stomach to create a narrow tube or “sleeve.” This gives patients a greater sense of fullness allowing them to eat less and lose weight.
“We have had great success with the program,” says Adam Glasgow, Medical Director of the Norwood Hospital Center for Weight Control. “We are excited to offer a new non-surgical option to our patients, the Orbera intragastric balloon. The balloon, inserted temporarily, takes up room in the stomach, helping patient to lose weight quickly and get on track with a healthier diet and fitness program.”
