Bonjour From Paris! Kristine Lilly’s World Cup Coverage Begins

The FIFA Women’s World Cup starts tomorrow, and I couldn’t be more excited. I am in Paris as a FIFA Ambassador and looking forward to attending the opening game in which France will take on South Korea.

I love being here as a spectator versus a player. It’s nice not to have the nerves and butterflies that were always around before games. I can relax, do my ambassador duties, sightsee, and catch up with old friends. I was able to meet up with Cindy and Carla, two friends that played on the 1999 team with me, and we visited the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe.

While in France, I also attended the 69th FIFA Congress on June 5. FIFA is the international governing body of soccer, which strives to raise awareness of the sport all over the world. The organization also hosts the male and female World Cup games. At the Congress, we learned FIFA is putting more time and money behind this year’s women’s game. This type of support is what we need to help our younger female athletes and give them the resources to make a difference. Whether it is playing on a World Cup team, coaching, running a business, teaching, we need to keep changing the road map and inspire young girls to go after what they want in life.

Four hundred female soccer players from around the world will be going after what they want as the World Cup games begin and young girls will have the opportunity to watch them try to help their teams be successful. These women will work hard, fight, sweat, smile, cry, be strong, and play soccer as they know how. They will SHINE! Check them out as I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

Go USA! We’re cheering you on and wishing you all the best.

Always Believe!
