Learn What the Number 13 Means to Kristine LillyKristine Lilly
Happy March everyone! In the Northeast, we started our March off with a foot of snow.
Just when I thought we might be in the clear as it’s been a mild winter; boom some snow! When March arrives, New Englanders start thinking about spring. Even though spring hasn’t quite sprung here, I am happy that it’s National Nutrition Month.
In general, I think we should always be thinking about our nutrition and what we put in our bodies. If you haven’t been focusing on what you are fueling your body with then you can start now.
This month is my 13-day smoothie challenge—a challenge that will help you focus on what you put in your body. I drink smoothies every morning and what I love about them, besides the way they taste, is how they make me look at food differently. When I start off my day with things like spinach, chia seeds, almond milk, bananas, Hemp seeds, aloe vera juice, Swiss chard, or almond butter, it makes me want to continue to put whole foods in my body. When you start your day off right than it sends a positive and healthy message to yourself and one you want to continue throughout the day.
So, you may wonder why 13 days? 13 was my jersey number when I played for the United States Women’s National Soccer Team. A lot of things I do revolve around the number 13. When I work out, I tend to do reps of 13. For example, 13 push-ups, 13 sprints, 13 squats, etc… It only made sense that the smoothie challenge takes place over 13 days.
I love challenges and since I have been retired from the game of soccer for nearly nine years, I need these little challenges to look forward to, compete in and accomplish goals.
I hope you will join me, March 18 to 31, for the challenge. It’s not that hard—all you must do is drink a healthy smoothie for breakfast. Doesn’t sound so hard now does it?
