COVID-19 Emergency General

Our Emergency Departments Are Here for You, Now and Always

When it comes to emergencies, every minute saved in getting medical help can help save lives – and preserve vital functions. In the weeks ahead and always, we are here when you need us. Our facilities are staffed with experienced medical professionals who are ready to assist patients with health emergencies, whether COVID-19 related or not.

Steward Family Hospitals are proactively engaged in the safe management of COVID-19, and we have put a strong emphasis on ensuring that protections are in place at our sites of care. This means that our emergency rooms continue to be a safe place to seek medical attention, no matter what your urgent health concerns.

Everyone who enters our emergency rooms – including patients, employees, physicians, visitors, and EMS workers – is screened. Anyone exhibiting signs of COVID-19 is taken to an isolation space for further evaluation. So, if you are concerned about a health emergency, rest assured that we have made the necessary preparations to receive and care for you in a safe, controlled and professional manner.

It is important to pay attention to your body at this time of heightened stress and remember the signs and symptoms of heart attack or stroke. Waiting could have long term effects on your health.

Heart attack symptoms may include chest discomfort, shortness of breath, pain in one or both arms, and nausea. Symptoms for women can be different and include nausea or vomiting and back or jaw pain.

For signs and symptoms of stroke, you are encouraged to remember “BE FAST”:

B – Balance: Watch for sudden loss of balance

E – Eyes: Check for vision loss

F – Face: Look for an uneven smile

A – Arm: check if one arm is weak

S – Speech: Listen for slurred speech

T – Time: Call 911 right away

If you have a medical history that indicates stroke or heart attack, or you have the symptoms of either, call 911 immediately, where you will be given appropriate, safe and necessary care. The longer you wait to seek care, the more likely it is to see long-term or permanent deficits to everyday activities.

In an emergency, your Steward Family Hospital is always here to offer professional, patient-centered care today and every day.
